Discover New Opportunities with Online Programme «Russian for Beginners: А0 – А1

22.11.2021

Great news for everyone who wants to take their first steps in learning one of the world’s most difficult languages — Russian.

On November 22, Saint-Petersburg State University launches the online programme “Russian for Beginners” on the National Open Education Platform. This date was not chosen at random — on November 22, 220 years ago, the distinguished Russian-language lexicographer and author of the “Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language”, Vladimir Dal was born. In Russia, each year to honour his birthday on November 22 we celebrate the Day of dictionaries and encyclopaedias.

Are you interested in the Russian language and Russian culture?

Do you want to communicate with your Russian friends and colleagues in their native language?

Or maybe your dream is to read the novels of Dostoevsky in their original language?

Then our programme is the perfect place to start!

First, you will learn the Russian alphabet, which can often be confusing for English speakers. How do we pronounce “Я”? Is it just an inverted “R”? Don’t worry – after a few lessons you will feel comfortable reading the Cyrillic alphabet and be able to form words. You will then study the fundamentals of Russian grammar and learn lots of useful words and simple phrases. You will learn how to introduce yourself, talk about your family and friends, as well as ask and answer basic questions.

During the programme you are going to watch videos, read texts, listen to dialogues, and complete interesting tests and quizzes.

Step by step, you will master important language skills and by the end of the course, you will be ready to participate in conversations and communicate with your Russian friends and colleagues at an elementary level.

Online courses by Saint-Petersburg State University provide high-quality education, available all over the world. Join us and start your journey into the world of the Russian language!
